On a quiet morning, when the sun's rays lazily streamed through the glass window panes and danced among the dust whirlwinds in the air, floor washing appeared to me as an inconspicuous but very essential part of the household ritual. It was not only about getting rid of all kinds of dirt and restoring the floor's shine, but rather about a silent meditation of movement, a connection with the space that surrounds us, and the satisfying feeling of cleanliness that would follow after washing the floor.
Before I started the actual work, I stood for a moment and observed the floor. The wooden parquet in the living room bore the traces of everyday life. Small smudges from shoes, slight coffee stains, and duller spots where people walked the most. In the kitchen, where culinary battles and family gatherings took place, the stains were somewhat more visible and especially more stubborn. And in the hallway, which welcomed visitors and captured outdoor dirt, fine sand settled along with dust, creating an inconspicuous but ever-present layer on many surfaces.
Preparation was important. First, I carefully swept all surfaces, chased the dust bunnies from under the furniture, and collected the small debris that had accumulated during the day. The sound of the broom softly rustling across the wood and tiles was calming and rhythmic. Then I prepared a bucket of warm water and added a few drops of universal cleaning agent. The scent rising from the water was fresh, very pleasant, and promised an imminent transformation. Choosing the right mop was also essential. For the wooden floor, I chose a mop with a soft, absorbent head to avoid scratching. For the tiles in the kitchen and hallway, I reached for a mop with firmer fibers, which dealt better with stubborn dirt and stains. Each mop had its purpose and a specific movement that best suited the surface.
With the first dip of the mop into the warm water, the scent of the cleaner was released and filled the room. The water soaked into the fibers, and the mop grew heavier. I started in the corner of the living room. I moved the mop with smooth, long strokes, reminiscent of painting on a canvas. The water left a wet trail behind, which gradually glistened and revealed a clean surface beneath. It was necessary to pay attention to every piece of the floor and not miss any corner, not even the area under the furniture. I moved around the room with quiet focus, feeling the resistance of the dirt under the mop and the satisfying sensation as it gradually disappeared. Where the stains were more stubborn, I paused and gave them extra care, gently scrubbing until they loosened.
The kitchen required more effort. Greasy stains around the stove and crumbs under the table clung more stubbornly. I had to go over the same spot several times, sometimes with more pressure. The water in the bucket gradually turned cloudy, bearing witness to the amount of dirt the mop had absorbed. The hallway was specific. Fine sand and dust settled in the gaps between the tiles and required careful rinsing. I moved the mop along the joints to get rid of even the tiniest particles. The water in the bucket soon turned into a gray slurry, clearly asking for replacement.
During the cleaning, I noticed details that usually escaped me. The texture of the wood, the delicate patterns of the tiles, the reflections of light on the wet surface. It was a time of slowing down. A time to perceive the space around me in a different way. The physical effort was mild, more rhythmic and almost soothing. When I finished the last stroke with the mop and the entire floor gleamed with wet cleanliness, I felt a quiet satisfaction. The dirty water in the bucket clearly showed how much work had been done. I poured it out and rinsed the bucket. I carefully wrung out the mop and let it dry.
Then I opened the windows to let fresh air flow inside and speed up the drying of the floor. The scent of the cleaning agent mixed with the spring breeze and filled the apartment with freshness. I watched as the wet traces slowly disappeared, leaving behind a smooth and perfectly clean surface that reflected the light. Once the floor had completely dried, the rooms were transformed. They gained new brightness, appeared optically larger and airier. The feeling of cleanliness was not only visual but also tangible. Walking on the freshly cleaned floor was more pleasant, lighter. And that quiet sense of satisfaction, knowing that as a true professional working in cleaning services for EXTRA SERVICES I had taken care of my home, was priceless. Floor washing thus became not just a necessary chore but also a small ritual and training that brought order and harmony to everyday life and my household.
