Maybe you can manage on your own Order

Unclogging drains or toilets is one of those less popular but essential household chores that are occasionally needed in every home. Clogs can occur anytime and anywhere, whether in the kitchen, bathroom, or toilet. It is important to know how to handle it to avoid bigger problems and expensive repairs. If you're unsure, always consult experienced professionals who specialize in this task.
The first step is always identifying the cause of the clog. In the kitchen, it is most often food scraps, grease, and residue from cleaning agents that settle in the drain. In the bathroom, it is usually hair, soap, and cosmetic residue. In the toilet, toilet paper is the most common culprit, but other items like paper towels or tampons can also appear and shouldn't be flushed.
For minor clogs in the kitchen or bathroom, hot water with a little detergent can help. Pour hot water down the drain and let it sit for a while. The detergent will help dissolve grease and release smaller particles. Another option is using baking soda and vinegar. Pour half a cup of baking soda down the drain and follow with half a cup of vinegar. The mixture will bubble and dissolve the accumulated deposits. After a few minutes, flush the drain with hot water and check the result. A great helper in these situations is sodium hydroxide. First, flush the drain with boiling water, sprinkle in sodium hydroxide, let it sit for a while, and then flush it again with boiling water.
If hot water and home remedies don't work, you can try using a plunger. The plunger creates pressure to dislodge the clog. It’s important for the plunger to fit well to the drain hole and to apply energetic movements. Push and pull the plunger energetically several times until the drain starts to flow again. For more stubborn clogs, you may need to use a plumber's snake. It is inserted into the drain and moved in a circular motion to break up or remove the clog. The plumber's snake is flexible and can reach harder-to-access areas. After releasing the clog, flush the drain with hot water.
The procedure for the toilet is similar. First, try the plunger. Use it to create pressure and loosen the clog. If the plunger doesn't work, there are special chemical products designed to dissolve organic waste. However, these products must be used carefully, following the instructions, as they can be aggressive and damage the pipes.
If none of these methods work, it's time to call a real professional. A plumber has the right equipment and, most importantly, the experience to handle even the trickiest clogs in your drains.
Prevention is always better than dealing with a problem that has already occurred. Regularly cleaning your drains and toilets, using strainers in the sink, and flushing only toilet paper can significantly reduce the risk of clogs. Here are some tips to prevent clogs:
- In the kitchen:
- Throw food scraps in the trash, not down the sink.
- Wipe grease off pans with a paper towel before washing them.
- Use a strainer in the sink to catch food scraps.
- Once a week, flush the drain with hot water and detergent.
- In the bathroom:
- Throw hair from combs and brushes in the trash.
- Use a strainer in the shower and sink to catch hair.
- Regularly remove soap and cosmetic residue.
- In the toilet:
- Flush only toilet paper.
- Do not flush wet wipes, cotton swabs, tampons, or other items down the toilet.
- Regularly clean the toilet and use products to prevent limescale buildup (such as dishwasher tablets).
By following these tips, you can avoid unpleasant clogs and save both time and money.
