Moments of humanity and understanding Order
Noise. That was the first thing announcing the arrival of the moving service. Not an elegant limousine arrival, nor the quiet rustling of papers, but rather a cacophony of sounds that gradually grew closer to our house. The roar of the moving truck's engine, the muffled thuds of carried boxes, occasional loud commands, and the laughter of men who were clearly enjoying their work with a certain degree of professionalism and perhaps even humor. Today was the day. The day when our life, packed into boxes and wrapped in bubble wrap, was to be moved to a new place we had chosen as our future home.
I remember the day we decided to hire a moving service. The thought of packing on our own, carrying heavy pieces of furniture up stairs, and then dealing with the complicated logistics of a rented van filled us with anxiety. We were exhausted just from the idea. Therefore, the choice of professionals seemed very reasonable, even necessary. After a few phone calls and comparing offers, we chose the company that made the best impression on us – serious dealings, clearly set conditions, and an acceptable price.
The planned move started with mild nervousness. Although we tried to be prepared, the feeling of chaos, where our entire life had been shrunk into a pile of labeled boxes, was somewhat uncomfortable. Then they arrived. Three strong men in uniforms with the Extra Services logo. Their arrival had a calming effect. Their gestures and looks radiated experience and confidence. They quickly introduced themselves and, with a smile, got to work. Their efficiency was astonishing. With ease and skill, they handled heavy wardrobes, dressers, and even our old piano, which seemed immovable simply by its weight. Every movement was calculated, every grip sure. It was clear that this wasn’t their first time. Our worries about damaging the furniture vanished with every safely loaded box.
While they worked, we watched in awe. They were like a well-rehearsed team, where each knew what to do without needing constant direction. One packed fragile items into special wrapping, another carefully placed them in boxes, and the third transported them to the truck with the help of a dolly. Everything ran smoothly without unnecessary delays. During the move, there were also small interactions. They occasionally exchanged a few words, asked where to place a certain box, or apologized with a smile when they almost collided in the narrow hallway. These brief moments of humanity broke the monotony of the work and gave the entire moving process a more personal touch.
Loading the truck was surprisingly fast. All our belongings, from the biggest pieces of furniture to the last flower and box of books, found their place in the truck. The sight of the empty house was strange. Suddenly, it seemed much bigger and emptier than we had ever realized. We were leaving behind a part of our lives, memories, and stories that had unfolded within these walls.
The journey to the new place was calm. The moving truck, carrying our past, slowly rolled through the city streets. At the new place, the movers were already waiting for us. With energy that seemed endless, they began unloading all the transported items. This time, it was a bit more complicated because we hadn’t yet figured out exactly where to put everything. They patiently listened to us and placed the boxes and furniture exactly where we wanted. Gradually, the new house began to fill with our things. The piles of boxes slowly shrank, and familiar shapes and colors of our furniture started to appear. That feeling when the old couch finally found its new spot was truly reassuring. We were slowly starting to adjust to the new environment, which, with the presence of our things, was gradually becoming our dream home.
When the last box was in place and the last piece of furniture was where it was supposed to be, the movers wiped the sweat from their foreheads. You could see the exhaustion, but also satisfaction from a job well done. We thanked them for their professionalism and willingness. Their work had saved us not only a lot of physical effort but also stress and time. Thanks to them, the move went much smoother than we ever imagined. After they left, a deathly silence reigned in the new house. It was a different kind of silence than the morning one. It wasn’t the silence of emptiness, but the silence after a job well done. A tremendous relief. Around us stood piles of boxes waiting to be unpacked, but the hardest task was behind us. Thanks to the moving service, we could start building our new home with renewed energy and optimism. Our experience with them showed us how important it is sometimes to leave difficult work to true professionals. The investment in their services paid us back many times over in saved time, energy, and most importantly, peace. And although I no longer remember the names of the three men, I will surely remember their professional approach and humanity for a long time.
